Aberforth is furious with Grindelwald for persuading you to take Ariana with you, for she is in no condition to travel. He and Grindelwald argue and then begin dueling with their wands. When Grindelwald casts the Cruciatus Curse on Aberforth, your brotherly love overcomes your love for Grindelwald, and you join the fray on your brother's side. Ariana intervenes, trying to stop the fighting, until she is caught by a rogue curse and killed. Grindelwald, fearing that he will be blamed for Ariana's death, flees. Aberforth blames you for Ariana's death. In a rage, he punches you in the nose and breaks it. Feeling that you richly deserved this punishment, you never get your nose repaired.

You are now free to resume your career at Hogwarts - as a professor of Transfiguration under Headmaster Armando Dippet. Some time later, Dippet summons you to his office to give you an assignment. Whenever a wizard or witch turns eleven years old, the Headmaster sends him or her by owl post an invitation to study at Hogwarts. This time, however, sending an owl would alert too many Muggles to the existence of a wizard in their midst, because this particular child wizard lives in a Muggle orphanage. Dippet asks you to visit the orphanage personally and invite the child, one Tom Riddle, to study at Hogwarts.

Tom turns out to be a power-hungry bully. Remembering your own former power-lust, you are reluctant to accept Tom as a student, fearing that he will use the lessons he learns at Hogwarts to the detriment of others. On the other hand, you feel that you don't have the right to deny any witch or wizard an education; besides, at Hogwarts you will be able to keep an eye on him.

If you choose to invite Tom to Hogwarts, turn to page 10.

If you choose not to invite Tom to Hogwarts, turn to page 9.
